Accessible Cottage Life Awaits

The City of Kawartha Lakes captivates visitors with its awe-inspiring landscapes, pristine lakes, and an abundance of outdoor recreational opportunities. While it has become a sought-after destination for cottage getaways, finding wheelchair accessible cottage rentals, not only here but across cottage country, can be a challenging endeavor. Yet, amidst this untapped potential, our property stands as a beacon of possibility.

Nestled in the heart of the Kawartha Lakes region, our plot of land eagerly awaits its transformation into something extraordinary. From the moment we acquired this property, we envisioned its remarkable future. Now, that vision has taken shape, and I am thrilled with the direction and the positive feedback so far. The potential that lies ahead is brimming with excitement, and I am determined to turn this dream into a remarkable reality.

Our Story

This project holds an incredibly special place in my heart, as it is a true labour of love. Above all, it is my remarkable big brother who serves as a constant source of inspiration, navigating life with cerebral palsy and relying on a wheelchair for mobility. Our family has always shared a deep love for travel, and my brother's wanderlust knows no bounds. Yet, the search for inclusive experiences that cater to all of us has not always been smooth sailing. We have personally faced the challenges of finding true wheelchair-accessible travel options, including rental cottages.

As I began sharing the idea of a wheelchair-accessible Airbnb with others, it quickly became apparent that countless families like ours yearn for such opportunities. Couples dreaming of sharing a romantic getaway, friends eager to embrace the great outdoors, and multi-generational families longing to include their beloved elderly members in joyous reunions—mobility touches us all. I am filled with anticipation to make this cherished holiday experience accessible to everyone, and the sheer thought of witnessing the radiant smile on my brother's face is simply indescribable.

However, this project encompasses more than just accessibility. It is driven by my unwavering passion for art and design, cultivated over a decade of experience in the architecture and design industry. I have come to deeply appreciate the transformative power of beautiful design, as it has the ability to evoke a wide range of emotions and leave a lasting impact on our overall well-being. While accessible design often places functionality at the forefront, I firmly believe there is vast untapped potential to enhance the beauty of adaptive features and equipment within residential spaces. My fervent hope is that by creating a harmonious blend of aesthetics and functionality, we can ignite a greater prevalence of these design principles within the realm of Canadian design.

I hope you will follow us as we embark on this extraordinary journey, fuelled by love, inclusivity, and the transformative power of art and design. We have the opportunity to shape a future where everyone can enjoy nature and indulge in the sheer beauty of a truly accessible and aesthetically captivating space.
